Testing Intra-Industry Trade Between Portugal and Spain [1990-1996]

This paper shows how, in the period 1990-1996, economic integration between the two Iberian economies has deepened through intra-industry trade. The enquiry was led at the level of the main forty traded products. In this context, several tests have been made. Our analysis combines first the application of the Grubel and Lloyd index of the main forty products and the marginal intra-industry trade of Brulhart, and Brulhart and Elliot. On the basis of these indexes we defined our criterion for the selection of the competitive cluster of Portugal throughout the period. We have also considered the global intra-industry trade, in nominal and real terms, according to the method of Greenaway et al. In econometric terms we have tried to know which is the relation between the intra-industry trade index and the marginal intra-industry trade at the level of the main forty products, the results however were not unequivocal. The same is true as far as concerns the relation between the intra-industry trade index and the net export position at the level of the same products. Despite the fact that some attempts have been inconclusive, knowledge about Iberian trade has developed in a field essential to its upgrading, and the way is open for further research.intra-industry trade; marginal intra-industry trade; competitive cluster; net export position.

Acute Kidney Injury in the Intensive Care Unit

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is defined as an abrupt decrease in glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Incidence varies from 20% to as high as 70% in critically ill patients. Classically, AKI has been divided into three broad pathophysiologic categories: prerenal AKI, intrinsic AKI, and postrenal (obstructive) AKI. The clinical manifestations of AKI vary among a wide range of symptoms and metabolic abnormalities. A sudden decrease in GFR will result in rising concentrations of solutes in the blood, which are normally excreted by the kidneys. Recently, new urinary and serum biomarkers have gained a place in the diagnosis, classification, and prognosis prediction of AKI. The best treatment for AKI is prevention. Patients with prerenal azotemia should have intravascular volume deficits corrected and cardiac function optimized. Obstructive (postrenal) kidney disease is treated by mechanical relief of the block. The primary management of acute interstitial nephritis is discontinuation of the inciting agent. Renal replacement therapy (RRT) has emerged as a supportive mechanism rather than just as a lifesaving measure. Continuous techniques are preferable in treating critically ill patients, although every modality has its benefits, indications, and contraindications

Aplicação de retardadores de crescimento em citrinos ornamentais

Tendo por objectivo a avaliação dos efeitos de alguns retardadores de crescimento no desenvolvimento vegetativo de citrinos ornamentais, para posterior utilização pelos viveiristas, foi estudado o efeito da aplicação, por pulverização, de quatro retardadores de crescimento a diferentes concentrações, sobre duas espécies do género Fortunella sp. ( F. margarita [ Lour. ] Swing. e F. Obovata Tan. ). Estudámos o efeito da daminozida a 5600, 7500 e 9400 ppm; paclobutrazol a 180, 240 e 300 ppm; CCC a 1050, 1400 e 1750 ppm e dikegulac a 3000, 4000 e 5000 ppm. O desenvolvimento vegetativo das plantas foi observado ao longo de dois ciclos de crescimento, sendo medidos os seguintes parâmetros: comprimento do ramo médio, comprimento final dos entrenós, comprimento e largura do limbo da folha média, número de folhas do ramo. Calculou-se o comprimento final do ramo e a relação comprimento/largura da folha. O primeiro crescimento não apresentou diferenças significativas em relação à testemunha, possivelmente, devido à aplicação tardia dos produtos. No segundo crescimento, as plantas tratadas com paclobutrazol foram significativamente menores, com menores entrenós e folhas mais arredondadas e mais verdes, não se verificando diferenças entre as concentrações. Tanto a daminozida como o CCC, não reduziram de forma significativa o crescimento das plantas tratadas, enquanto o dikegulac se mostrou altamente fitotóxico, nas concentrações utilizadas.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A data-driven network approach for characterization of political parties’ ideology dynamics

Due to the influence and importance of political parties in society, estimating their ideology is an active topic in political science research. However ideology is a very subjective phenomena and existing quantitative methods for ideology estimation are susceptible to a variety estimation issues, specially when applied in multi-partisan systems. In this work, we developed a data-driven network model for political ideology estimation based on partisan relationships established from party-switching politicians. An IT service management literature review: Challenges, benefits, opportunities and implementation practices

Information technology (IT) service management is considered a collection of frameworks that support organizations managing services. The implementation of these kinds of frameworks is constantly increasing in the IT service provider domain. The main objective is to define and manage IT services through its life cycle. However, from observing the literature, scarcely any research exists describing the main concepts of ITSM. Many organizations still struggle in several contexts in this domain, mainly during implementation. This research aims to develop a reference study detailing the main concepts related with ITSM.
